Centroid is an ad network connecting developers of 3D and VR content with advertisers.

  • Developers embed ad rectangles into their content in minutes with our Unity or Unreal SDK. Learn more.
  • Developers get paid every time a user views an ad.
  • Advertisers bid on ad space in 3D and VR content, which was never possible before. Learn more.

What are ad rectangles?

An ad rectangle is a rectangular canvas that developers can embed directly into their Unity or Unreal experiences in less than five minutes. Once embedded in the game, the rectangle will track the number of user views it receives, take screenshots when views occur, and track other statistics, like view time and screen real-estate percentage, that are useful for advertisers. Learn more.

Once a plugin is embedded and tracking statistics successfully, advertisers can then place bids on the rectangle to fill it with images. Advertisers can bid on specific rectangles, whole groups of rectangles (i.e. all the rectangles in a particular game), or target via more general criteria. Advertisers are then charged (and developers paid) whenever an initial view occurs.

Ad Rectangle Specifics

  • Simple images that will display in a rectangle in a game/experience made with the Unity or Unreal platform.
  • Aspect ratio is all that matters here. Right now, we only support a single aspect ratio, which is 16:9.
  • Platform-agnostic.
  • All standard image formats are supported.

Viewability

Centroid only charges advertisers for ad views, so if an ad loads in a game but a user never sees it you'll never be charged. Below are the rough criteria we use for viewability, adapted from the IAB standard:
  • The ad must be on-screen for 1 second or more.
  • The ad must cover a minimum of 10% of the screen for the 1 second duration.
  • The angle the ad makes with the screen must be no larger than 45 degrees relative to the game screen.
  • Only the initial view after an ad loads is charged for. This means if a user looks away and looks back, the advertiser isn't charged again.

Verification

In addition to our rigorous viewability criteria, Centroid takes a screenshot every so often when an ad is viewed. At the end of a campaign, an advertiser can look through some of the screenshots to make sure their ad was indeed viewable. If an advertiser is every dissatisfied, we cancel the charge, contact the developer, and fix the issue immediately for future advertisers. Learn more.

Some developers want to control which ads show up in their games, and some advertisers want to control which games their ads appear in. Rest assured, Centroid has facilities to manage both of these issues. Learn more. Learn more.

Developers

Developers can set their ad units to "auto-approve" or not.

If they set their ad units to auto-approve, then all advertisers' media will be eligible to appear in their game/experience.

If a developer chooses to disable auto-approval for an ad unit, then they will need to manually approve specific orders from advertisers in order for them to be allowed to appear in their game. This isn't as bad as it sounds, since you can sort all orders by bid and check off the ones that you like.

Advertisers

Advertisers can create "omni" orders, which target all available inventory, or they can target specific ad units, groups of ad units, or demographics.

For targeting, advertisers can use our inventory search engine to sort ad units (and groups of ad units) by number of views, hashtags, and other criteria.

Developers

Just use our SDK to embed an ad rectangle in your game or experience for Unity or Unreal. The process takes less than five minutes.
